A reporter who came to journalism
through the classroom.

Maram Elnagheeb is a multimedia journalist covering politics, education, and culture, with beats in immigration, labor, and community organizing. Her reporting keeps its attention on the systems and policies that shape how people live and work — school enrollment formulas, union bargaining tables, transit accessibility law — and on the people those systems land on.

Before journalism she worked as a teacher and in the nonprofit sector. That background shapes how she reports: building trust with sources over time, centering community voices rather than quoting them at the end, and knowing a beat deeply enough to recognize when the official story doesn't match the one being lived.

Her work spans audio, video, print, and investigative reporting — reported, produced, shot, and edited.

She holds a Master's in Journalism from Columbia University and a degree in Social Policy from Duke University. She is based in New York and available for freelance assignments and collaborations.
